Tabou TMF: What was it like working with Assassin?

Maxi Priest: Ah! I mean we didn’t actually work together in the studio at the same time. I did this particular song at The Ranch, Shaggy’s place with Sting and Shaggy and G.C. We did the song and then, they decided to make the decision that we would use assassin on it.

Tabou TMF: Okay!

Maxi Priest: And I thought it was a fabulous choice, and I guess the rest is history.

Tabou TMF: Right! Right.

Maxi Priest: It’s there and he done a great job of it and nuff respect to Assassin he’s got a lot of ability.

Tabou TMF: Definitely, it’s a great track. I mean when I first hear it, first I hear the Riddim and the first thing that drops in my mind is Dennis Brown and then I hear your voice and then Assassin comes in.

Maxi Priest:  It’s just a modern twist on the old thing you know, and sometimes these things work and sometimes, they don’t. But this does.

Tabou TMF: Yeah, and then the track with you and Beres another great collaboration. Again as always

Maxi Priest: The big man himself.

Tabou TMF: Definitely. One thing I love about that is, you and Beres both have two distinctive voices

Maxi Priest: Yes!

Tabou TMF: It’s like when you hear Maxi Priest you know its Maxi Priest, when you hear Beres you know its Beres.

Maxi Priest: That’s Right, That’s Right!

Tabou TMF: And that in itself is a beautiful thing.

Maxi Priest:  And I think that’s an appreciation that we have for each other too. You know, he brings a tremendous, abundance of ability and talent to this industry.

Tabou TMF: Definitely!

Maxi Priest: A Friendship that I treasure, advice and motivation and confidence that he has given me over the years, has been fuel to my fire that I burn. So, that’s my brethren.

Tabou TMF: It’s a great thing, big shout out to Beres.

Maxi Priest: 24/7That’s my brethren.

Tabou TMF: Alright, and now I mentioned earlier remember I brought up you working with Roberta Flack back in the days. How was that? What was that experience like?

Maxi Priest: Oh! One that… a lot of folks are going to only be able to dream about it.

Tabou TMF: Yes.

Maxi Priest: For me Roberta Flack is like concrete, a part of the concrete of music, entertainment business period. Meeting Roberta was like, damn I met, Marvin Gaye… I met Stevie Wonder; I met everybody, through this woman. Cause she has that respect.

Tabou TMF: Yes, Yes! Definitely. And that’s also another thing that I love about you is that, you have an R&B vibe even though its reggae, your voice, you can top R&B artists everyday all day. And I love it’s the fusion of you know reggae culture, cause it makes it your own.

Maxi Priest:  But that’s what you know, this is my ting.

Tabou TMF: Right, exactly!

Maxi Priest:  Now, what you wanna call it you call it, you wanna call it reggae you call it reggae, you wanna call it R&B you call it R&B.

Tabou TMF: It’s Maxi music.

Maxi Priest: If you call it Pop, you call it Pop, call it country western, any ting you wan call it. It is me. And this is what I do, and this has been my enjoyment and this has been my experience of my life in this entertainment world. And one that I have so much appreciation for. Cause I could be doing so many other different things, and I’m blessed to be doing what I’m doing. Cause this is what I wanted to do. So I’m not about to take that for granted, you know.

Tabou TMF:  Yep, I hear you. That’s what it is. Well you know I’m going to let you go because I know you have a lot of things to do. Unless there’s anything else you want to add to let the people know.

Maxi Priest: You know, I just really wanna truly say thank you to everybody for your support over the years not only for my music, but for music on a whole. Without you there is no us. This thing cannot move without the support from you guys. So I say Thank you and I hope you physically go out there and support this, vibe that we got here. We’re loving it. Bless.

Tabou TMF: Definitely, The one and only legendary Maxi Priest.

Tabou TMF: Make sure don’t just buy the album and play the album, make sure you come out on tour and support this guy wherever he’s at, cause that’s how we gotta keep it going.
